I’m interested in exploring the human animal bond through the lens of social equality and its
effect on animal welfare. Like how poverty affects animal welfare and perhaps also the way that
affects the bond?

Goal
Create an original research paper on a topic relevant to the veterinary science
fields,(Human-Canine Bond) using proper APA formatting and critical evaluation of
information sources.
Overview
You’ll examine a specific topic and write a formal paper on the subject, including your
findings and your conclusions. In this process, you’ll be able to develop and strengthen
the research skills you already have, in addition to fine-tuning your organizational and
writing skills. You’ll need to approach the project in stages, beginning with research
planning and management, databases and literature review, evaluating research,
organizing writing material, writing a final draft, and properly citing sources. The
emphasis here is on process and product, the process of researching and writing about
a specific topic to produce a research report.
Instructions
It’s highly recommended that you look through each section of this course outline and
understand the instructions before starting to write your paper, as well as completing all
assigned readings. Having an overall understanding of the factors and steps involved in
formulating a good research question and writing a research paper that supports your
thesis statement will make this project much easier, and you’ll get more out of it once
you’re finished.
Once you have a clear understanding of the material presented in this course, you’re
ready to start writing your research paper.
The first step will be to pick a topic, as previously discussed. Choose a topic that you
find interesting, one that’s current enough to have relevant research resources, and one
that’s broad enough to provide opportunity for research but not so broad that you can’t
formulate a specific research question.
Once you have chosen your topic, start researching and become familiar with basic
terms, ideas, questions, and issues related to that topic. From that topic, form a more
focused area to research, and a question that will guide your research. Once you’re
satisfied with the quality of that research question, form a hypothesis, or answer to your
research question, and begin the process of writing your paper to answer your research
question and support your hypothesis.
Instructions:
Your research project must include:
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
•
An abstract that summarizes the major aspects of the research paper.
An introduction that summarize important findings and provides background for the
topic. The research question should be described clearly, and the significance of the
question explained.
A thesis that is clearly stated and focused.
A body that addresses the research question and provides organized information
supporting the hypothesis.
A discussion section that critically examines research to give deeper understanding to
topic question.
A conclusion section that presents logical explanations for your findings and presents
clear recommendations or implications for future exploration of your research topic.
The research paper must be focused and have enough substantial content to
adequately support your hypothesis statement. Ideas presented should be complex and
well-developed.
The paper should be organized, and topic sentences should be well stated. There
should be clear and smooth transitions when going from one idea to another.

•
The research paper should be free of grammatical, punctuation and spelling errors.
Sentence structure and word choices should be precise and intentional.
Information sources need to be properly documented in APA format. Both in-text and
Works Cited pages should follow APA format as well. (Note: The majority of the
research paper should be in your own words, with brief and accurate quotations used to
express thoughts that aren’t original.)
Project Specifications:
1. Students must turn in a single word-processing document that is 4-6 pages in length,
using Times New Roman font, double spaced with normal 1″ margins.
2. The title page should contain the following information:
a. The Title: Vet 307 Introduction to Research in Veterinary Technology
b. Your name
c. Your Ssudent ID number
d. The lesson number (613857)
e. Your email address
f. Date project was submitted
3. Must include the 10 parts of a research project listed above
4. The paper should be free of spelling, grammar and punctuation errors and should be
written as a formal paper using APA style
5. Student must demonstrate proper in-text citations. The paper should include a minimum
of four reference listed in proper APA format at the end of the document on a works
cited page. It is up to you to evaluate the information sources you choose to use.
Information sources must be valid, credible, accurate and relevant.
