Instructions for your paper:

Your paper should be no longer than 2 pages long and will be assessed using the same criteria as for the major paper. I highly advise you to review that rubric in the syllabus.

Your paper will not need an abstract but will need an introduction and conclusion and an APA formatted title page and reference page.

Body of paper:

Introductory paragraph-In this paragraph you will give a basic overview of your paper and introduce the main ideas. It will generally follow the paragraph introductory sentences for the body of the paper

History of the discovery of this disorder-How and or who discovered it? Were there key case studies or people with the disorder that made it famous?

Diagnostic Criteria -Please describe the diagnostic criteria utilized to diagnose this disorder. In other words what are the key signs or symptoms of this disorder. Please cite where you found your criteria.

Etiology-What are the reasons the signs and symptoms occur. Is there a certain brain damage in a part of the brain or a problem in a neurotransmitter?

Treatment-What is the preferred treatment for this disorder. In some cases it might be difficult to find a treatment beyond helping someone cope with the disorder

Conclusion paragraph-This paragraph should just be a recap of what you talked about in your paper. You should not be introducing new topics here. I know it will be a bit repetitive but this is a very scripted sample of writing so it is ok.

Please include an APA reference page at the end of your assignment.

You will have 5 references. At least 2 of your references must come from peer-reviewed scholarly journals. Other information can come from other sources EXCEPT Wikipedia. Refer to Academic Journal list handout or the UMUC library for ideas about where to find acceptable articles for this assignment.

Please note that some of the disorders listed may be hard to find the answers to the above questions. You may only have a few case studies of the disorder. In these cases, it would be ok to describe the case studies in greater detail to explain or meet the criteria listed above. Please refer to the syllabus content (there is a rubric in the content after the syllabus) that shows in great detail the criteria for this minipaper and the major paper.
