Deliverable 4 – Social Media and Its Impact on Norms
In the twenty-first century, social media usage has increased significantly. Due to the
widespread availability of internet access, many people have joined social media. The effects of
social media use on social standards have long been a contentious topic of debate. By assessing
the members of the society, it is crucial to comprehend the impact. Two cohorts were used in
the study, one of which utilizes social media more than two hours each day and the other does
not. Five young people aged 20 to 24 who frequently use social media made up the first group.
John 21, Jane 22, Smith 23, Kane 24, and Mary 24 make up the first group of social media users.
In order to eliminate age differences that might have an impact on views toward social media
that are influenced by the generation, the second cohort also included youths of the same age.
Ben 27, Joy 25, Joe 29, Grace 23, and George 28 are members of the second cohort who hardly
ever use social media. John is a college student who has had a significant impact on activismrelated topics on social media. John was my choice owing to his crucial contribution to the fight
for human rights. The same banks that Jane and Smith work for have used social media to
inspire young people and serve as role models for them. Kane and Marty, two other university
students, play a significant role in attracting high school students’ attention. Ben and Joy, two
subordinate employees at the Walmart supermarket, are always opposed to the usage of social
media. Joe, Grace, and George, as well as sporadic workers in a New York manufacturing, have
been opposed to social media because they believe it encourages immorality in society.
There was a noticeable difference in comprehension and social relations between the two
cohorts, according to the response. The fact that everyone in the two cohorts was the same age
was what made them comparable. The two cohorts both included young people who are
3
engaged in society. However, there were distinctions in the two groups’ attitudes, interpersonal
interactions, and lifestyles. The social media-using generation displayed an optimistic outlook
on a range of life challenges. Compared to the cohort that don’t use social media, they had
more optimism. When it came to eating, dressing, and other aspects of daily living, social media
users portrayed a better and more digitized lifestyle than those who did not use it. Social media
users exhibited a more optimistic attitude toward other members of society in terms of
relationships. They celebrated diversity of thought and valued individuals from many
backgrounds and cultures. The distinction reflects the cultivation and socialization idea, which
holds that social interaction tends to have an impact on how people behave. The relationship
between people has an impact on how people associate in society, according to the cultivation
and socialization idea (Trufanov, 2018). The social media users show different ways of
interacting and forming relationships with one another.
Many authors in society have centered their work on the subject of social media. Many
academics have dedicated their time to researching the effects of social media on society.
Social media use has been shown to have both beneficial and detrimental effects on society.
The good effects of social media have enhanced society in a number of ways. Social media
usage has improved societal communication problems. Social media has made it possible for
people to communicate easily even when they are geographically separated from one another
(Zhong, 2018). It has transformed the way people influence one another to bring about a good
change in society. The successful usage of social media is credited with facilitating contact
amongst individuals living in different nations. Concerns about barriers caused by geographic
distances have diminished as a result of social media.

Cultural variety in society has been linked to social media, as well. Through interactions
on social media platforms, which aid in mutual understanding, social media affects how people
perceive other cultures (Raman, 2018). It aids in ensuring that variety is valued in society, which
is crucial for fostering a better neighborhood. Due to the rise in racial discrimination that has
occurred in the community, cultural diversity has come under fire as a critical issue for society.
Since individuals engage with one another and learn about other cultures via social media, it
has become the answer to discrimination in society.
The use of social media has been credited with improving the educational landscape.
With the advent of globalization, education has emerged as a key tenet that supports the
development of a favorable educational environment (Raman, 2018). A key pillar in the
promotion of equality and the eradication of potential disparities is education. Students now
have great tools for communicating with those in other classes thanks to social media.
Professors can share significant data on students’ progress as well as courses that help them
learn and engage in debate. In order to provide emotional support, it has also helped
international students communicate with their parents. In particular during the pandemic when
students have been mandated to stay at home, social media is a crucial pillar in aiding in the
promotion of a favorable environment.
The business world is another significant area that social media has positively impacted.
Social media usage has become incredibly important in the corporate world (Zhong, 2018). The
usage of social media for marketing has become popular among companies all over the world
as a successful tactic in the marketplace. Social media marketing has had a tremendous impact
5
on the market. Customers are increasingly using social media in conjunction with their buying.
In the business world, social media marketing has sparked a growing revolution.
Despite the many benefits, certain negative effects of social media use have persisted
throughout society. The moral decline in society is the primary adverse effect of social media
use (Majeed, 2021). The usage of social media has increased immorality in the neighborhood.
Thanks to the use of social media, young people have joined organizations engaged in immoral
activities including gangs, prostitution, and other damaging social problems. Over the past few
years, the number of online gangs has risen steadily. The most contentious social media-related
issue in society is its connection to crime and immorality.
According to the research, social media has both beneficial and harmful effects on
society. It is crucial to make sure that the positive effects are used to advance a just society.
Social media’s beneficial benefits continue to be essential for advancing a just society.
Additionally, it is crucial to concentrate on eradicating the detrimental effects on society.
People must overlook the persistent negatives and concentrate on the pleasant aspects of life..
