Members of the executive staff of ABC Hospital are anticipating another pandemic, much like COVID-19, within the next 10 years. After discussions with local and state epidemiologists, it was determined that a comprehensive plan was essential to mitigate the impact of another outbreak, pandemic, or other disasters on their community.
With the help of the hospital’s EIS, the hospital’s executive staff are reviewing community population projections, economic and financial projections for the community and the hospital, technology growth and needs (both clinical and administrative), and personnel needs (again, both clinical and administrative). They have developed a task force with the community emergency management, local health department, and other elected officials. Each group is using its respective information systems to run statistical scenarios and prospective community plans. Subsequent meetings will address the various projections and determine priorities and budget restrictions.
At a future point in time, they will seek more community input from various civic, political, and religious groups so that there is more buy-in and support for this all-hazard mitigation plan from the community at large.
