Pick one of the instances. Find the material safety data sheet (MSDS) for the chemical released. What PPE should be used around these chemicals? What else does the MSDS tell us that is important?
Find another MSDS for a chemical or substance you use regularly. Even something at home (even as simple as hydrogen peroxide). What are some of the precautions you should be taking with it (that you may not be)?

Chemical releases are the unintended discharge of chemicals into the environment, and
they typically occur in storage tanks, shipping containers, or subterranean pipes (Zhou et al.,
2020). Chemical emissions can occur in a variety of settings, including factories, labs, and even
situations involving common household chemicals. These chemical discharges and emissions are
extremely dangerous and have a significant negative impact on both the environment and human
health. Chemical leaks are caused by a variety of factors, including human error when handling
chemicals and malfunctioning chemical equipment. Chemical emissions can also be caused
purposefully through deliberate actions.
From the article, I picked an instance that took place in Bhopa where water entered a
pesticide plant causing reactions to take place and high toxic gas leaking killing large population.
I found the material safety data sheet (MSDS) for the chemical emitted which provides
information on potential health risks connected with exposure, suggested first aid measures, firefighting strategies, and correct handling and storage techniques. In order to reduce any
unfavorable environmental effects, the MSDS may also include information on environmental
hazards and disposal techniques. Therefore, the personal protective equipment to be used around
such chemicals that led to reactions in Bhopa incidence include protective gloves, eye and
respiratory protection.
The material safety data sheet (MSDS) for the chemical emitted and the necessary PPE to
use around these chemicals will change. For example, when chlorine gas was spilled in a pool in
San Jose, it was reported by ABC7 News that some people became ill. When handling chlorine
gas, it is advised to wear chemical goggles, a face shield, a chemical suit, and chemical-resistant

gloves, according to the MSDS that I located. Additionally, it’s crucial to use the gas in a wellventilated environment and refrain from inhaling the gas.
Information on potential health risks connected with exposure, suggested first aid
measures, fire-fighting strategies, and correct handling and storage techniques are all provided in
the MSDS for the selected chemical. This knowledge is crucial for ensuring the chemical is
handled, transported, and stored safely to prevent any mishaps or injuries. In order to reduce any
unfavorable environmental effects, the MSDS may also include information on environmental
hazards and disposal techniques.
I also found another MSDS for a regularly used chemical substance which is hydrogen
peroxide used for cleaning and bleaching as well as other things. It is suggested that users wear
protective clothing, work in ventilated spaces, and steer clear of contamination when handling
compounds containing hydrogen peroxide. The MSDS for hydrogen peroxide that I found states
that gloves and eye protection should be used when handling it. Using it in a well-ventilated area
and avoiding skin and eye contact are also essential. Additionally, it needs to be stored far from
anything combustible. When handling the chemical released in the specified situation, the MSDS
advises using appropriate safety gear such gloves, goggles, and a respirator. Additionally, it
forbids inhalation, ingestion, and contact with the skin, eyes, and clothing. It also advises
thorough cleanup following handling. The MSDS for hydrogen peroxide advises wearing gloves
and keeping it away from the skin, eyes, and clothing. Additionally, it cautions against ingestion
and inhalation and advises full hand washing after handling.
