He’s gving me my grade on the 80’s, He says this on my last discussion “You responded to the post adequately but did not exceed expectations. I would have like for you to discuss your points in more detail and in your own voice while integrating from the resources. For instance, you mentioned that SA is influenced by environmental factors….. Ok- maybe give an example or say more about what/which environmental factors you are referring to”
Can you please be very picky with the discussion when comes to this drug class? I need at least 90 up. THANK You for all your help. For the response, I will add to the time limit

Before I can say anything about whether or not marijuana should be legalized, I have to
consider why should anything be outlawed at all? I mean, why not just make everything
legal?
It’s my feeling that a society needs rules by which to govern itself, and in a free
democracy, I’d rather have the people decide what those rules are, rather than some
official, ruler, or king. These rules should be known, publicized, and above all, apply
equally to everyone.
As Jean Jacques Rousseau wrote in 1762 in The Social Contract, “As the citizens, by
the social contract, are all equal, all can prescribe what all should do.” In other words,
social norms and community mores should dictate what laws we make and what laws
we follow.
It appears that marijuana use is not only on the rise, but its use is accepted more and
more. A Pew Research Center report dated April 13, 2023 stated:
“Around nine-in-ten Americans say marijuana should be legal for medical or recreational
use, according to an October 2022 Pew Research Center survey. An overwhelming
majority of U.S. adults (88%) say either that marijuana should be legal for medical and
recreational use (59%) or that it should be legal for medical use only (30%). One-in-ten
say the drug should not be legal in any form. These views have held steady since April
2021.”
Since we have laws to govern ourselves, and laws should reflect social norms and
community mores, and norms and mores have changed so that marijuana use is now
accepted by 88% of Americans, we should not have laws making marijuana use illegal.

I have mixed thoughts regarding the legalization of marijuana. According to the Pew
Research Center ” An overwhelming share of U.S. adults (88%) say either that
marijuana should be legal for medical and recreational use by adults (59%) or that it
should be legal for medical use only (30%). Just one-in-ten (10%) say marijuana use
should not be legal, according to a Pew Research Center survey conducted”
(PewResearch.com) 19 states, 2 territories and the District Of Columbia have passed
legislation for recreational use. According to the National Conference of State
Legislators, Many states have decriminalized small amounts of marijuana. They also
said ” In 2014 and preceding the successful legalization ballot measure, the District of

Columbia enacted legislation, which passed congressional review, and made
possession or transfer without remuneration of one ounce or less of marijuana a civil
violation.
I don’t agree with marijuana for recreational use. There are many side effects of
marijuana that can impact the body. According to the University of Rochester, Marijuana
is the most commonly used mind-altering drug in the U.S., after alcohol. Marijuana
effects a persons ability to understand and their reaction time. Synthetic marijuana has
the potential to cause even more harm than regular marijuana, Some of the
common side effects are hallucinations, kidney damage, and seizures. It has the
potential to even cause death. It has also been said that marijuana is the gateway for
other drugs.
According to the National Library of Medicine, “For instance, one study published by the
American Academy of Pediatrics documents findings from one analysis that
adolescents who use cannabis are 104 times more likely to use cocaine than
adolescents who never use cannabis.7Links to an external site. There are significant differences
between these two populations of adolescents predating the onset of cannabis use” .
Although don’t agree with people using marijuana for recreational use, I have heard
that there are several medical uses for marijuana.
According to the National Library of Medicine, Cannabis (Marijuana ) use decreases
pain and spasticity in people with MS, decreases tremor, rigidity, and pain in people with
PD, and improves the quality of life of ALS patients by improving appetite, and
decreasing pain and spasticity. Cannabis use is more common among people with
schizophrenia than healthy controls. Cannabis use is a risk factor for schizophrenia
which increases positive symptoms in schizophrenia patients and diminishes negative
symptoms. Studies have also shown that In late stage Alzheimer’s patients, cannabis
products may improve food intake, sleep quality, and diminish agitation. However, it can
worsen the symptoms of bipolar disorder. According to the University of Washington,
“Marijuana use or use disorder is associated with worsened affective episodes,
psychotic symptoms, rapid
cycling, suicide attempts, decreased long-term remission, poorer global functioning, and
increased disability. Bipolar patients who stop using marijuana during manic/mixed
episode have similar clinical and outcomes to those who never use marijuana, while
continued use is associated with higher risk of recurrence and poorer functioning”.
Although I don’t support recreational use of marijuana, I can understand the use of it for
a limited medical purpose.
