Here is the original prompt that I have already responded to:
Helping adolescents develop their identity can cause stress as teenagers want independence and begin to pressure their parents for more control.
What is identity development (e.g., social, gender)? Using Erikson’s fifth stage of development, explain these different types of identity. Explain the factors adolescents consider when addressing the question, “Who am I?”
I need to respond to 2 peers, here is the first one:
Identity development is a sense of belonging and understanding of ones self. “Identity development is the complex process by which people come to develop a sense and understanding of themselves within the context of cultural demands and social norms.” (Identity development – iresearchnet, 2016). When in the adolescent years, young people are constantly seeking belonging and validation. Erikson’s fifth stage of development happens around ages 12-18. These are the ages when an individual starts to gain their independence and seeks for independence. The fifth stages deals with identity vs. role and confusion. In this stage the adolescent questions their dreams, goals, and values. “The fifth stage of Erik Erikson’s theory of psychosocial development is identity vs. role confusion, and it occurs during adolescence, from about 12-18 years. During this stage, adolescents search for a sense of self and personal identity, through an intense exploration of personal values, beliefs, and goals.” (Mcleod, 2023). The two identities involved are sexual and occupational. When the adolescent thinks of the question “Who am I?’, they begin to ask themselves what they want to be, what they want to do, and what they are now. They question and identify their sexuality at this age.

Here is the 2nd one I need a response to:
Teens- This period during one’s life is when there are drastic changes occurring. This ranges from puberty to lifestyle changes. Identity is the many pieces of an individual that makes them who they are. (Santrock, 2011) This includes career, spiritual beliefs, relationships, sexuality, achievement/intellect, interests, physical characteristics, and body image. (Santrock, 2011) Regarding Erickson’s stages of development, the 5th one is Identity vs. Role Confusion. (McLeod, 2018)
This stage is one where the teen will learn what roles they will have as an adult. (McLeod, 2018) Teens are still exploring the world in search of their identity & ways to fit in. The 2 identities involved in the 5th stage of development are sexual and occupational. (McLeod, 2018) Teenagers define themselves not based on what they solely fit in as but on what social factors define them, like the abovementioned list.
