This is the original discussion post I already responded to, but I need to respond to 2 of my peers.
New parents often seek advice for tips and advice about raising a new infant. There are so many conflicting views and perspectives about parenting that new parents receive from family members, healthcare providers, and Internet searches. Using scholarly sources such as your textbook and or journal articles, answer the questions below as if a friend were asking you to provide advice:
- What is infant sleep training? Is it safe? How do new parents know if their baby needs them, or should they let the baby cry it out? Are there attachment issues new parents should be concerned about when a baby cries for too long?
- Should parents wake a baby who has been sleeping for more than four hours to feed them?
- What books, toys, or videos should parents give a baby to give them an intellectual advantage? Are there ways parents can facilitate a higher level of intelligence in a child?
- Siblings are often very different in temperament. What does that mean? Why does that happen?
Here is the discussion #1 I need a response for:
After researching, sleep training is the process in how to teach a baby how to fall asleep on its own. This will be beneficial when the baby has reached around four months old. According to Cleveland Clinic, “There has been ample long-term research studying sleep training, and there is no evidence that sleep training is physically or psychologically damaging to babies and children. In fact, it’s been known to improve parental mood, improves an infant’s sleep quality, and increases the secure attachment between babies and their caregivers.” With that being said, sleep training for infants is a great process for both benefits of the mother and baby. It is given that within the first night or two the baby may cry it out. This is because the infant is so used to going to sleep with assistance. The parents must make sure the baby has a clean diaper, the crib is safe, and the baby is fed. This allows the parent to know their baby has had everything they need and they are safe. Parents can also do a few check-ins throughout the night to make sure the baby is okay. When the baby is first starting this process, there may be crying due to attachment issues, the baby is supposed to cry it out until tiring themselves to sleep. According to Kids Health, “Newborns who sleep for longer stretches should be awakened to feed. Wake your baby every 3–4 hours to eat until he or she shows good weight gain, which usually happens within the first couple of weeks. After that, it’s OK to let your baby sleep for longer periods of time at night.” In order for babies to grasp the intellectual advantage, there are toys, books, and videos the parents can give them to facilitate a higher level of intelligence. It is important for young children to develop awareness and learning skills. The young child can watch cause-and-effect types of videos, easy problem-solving games, color plots, toys including shapes and colors, and speaking toys. Siblings are often very temperament. This is because siblings share DNA. Siblings are different because they experience different things, have different interests, and can hang out around different people. This is why they are similar in some ways due to genetics but can be very different in other aspects due to their personal self and experiences.

Here is the discussion #2 that I need a response for:
Infant sleep training can help prevent death on a baby. If the infant sleeps with the face up they could be at risk of choking on their own vomit. I think the best way for an infant to sleep is facing down because the risk of choking on vomit is minimal. Training an infant to sleep the right way can prevent death.
Parents can talk to their baby, read to them, sing to them and play with them, it is important to have interaction with their baby. this can help them recognizing voice and can help develop their brain.
siblings are different because they way they are, sometimes they are jealous from other siblings, they want attention too.
