You will revisit and revise your teaching philosophy that you submitted during week 1. As part of this assignment, you should evaluate your original philosophy and include a one-page discussion of how your thoughts and ideas about teaching have changed and developed during this course. Guidelines for revising your teaching philosophy and the one-page discussion are below.
Assignment Guidelines
Revised Personal Teaching Philosophy (3–5 pages)
Reflect on the teaching principles and practices discussed during the course.
What did you learn about teaching that you did not know prior to this course?
What stood out as important to you over the past 8 weeks?
Consider how you might expand, adapt, or change your original philosophy to your current perspective on teaching (or you may feel compelled to take it in a completely new direction).
Your revised teaching philosophy should:
Have a clear focus or theme.
Be authentic and personal.
Relay who you are (or aspire to be) as a teacher.
Clearly express your current teaching values and beliefs, and discuss why you hold those values and beliefs (whether or not they have changed).
Explain the teaching methods or strategies that you believe are best (whether or not they are different from your original philosophy). Note: make sure the teaching methods you find best are consistent with your goals.
Evaluation Discussion of Teaching Philosophy (1 page)
As part of this revised teaching philosophy assignment, you should include a discussion evaluating how your personal thoughts and ideas about teaching have changed during this course.

My Personal Philosophy of Teaching
Teaching is sharing knowledge. Also, it mostly happens in the context of the discipline.
Therefore, in healthcare, teaching should be expected to involve topics that concern performing
professional healthcare roles. The primary aim of the processes involved in teaching is to
facilitate learning. Therefore, the quality of teaching impacts the quality of learning and the
learners’ ability to apply information. Consequently, it affects patient care quality and the
outcomes of care. Therefore, the next parts of the discussion will include my understanding of
the process, my goals for teaching, strategies that I prefer, and how I will improve the outcomes
of my teachings. From my experience and learning, teaching is an active process that requires
both teachers and learners to be involved in causing beneficial results.
When teaching, I will view my students as partners in the process. Even though I
facilitate the process, they must involve themselves in learning. For instance, I will provide them
with basic information and even help them optimize their learning through various teaching
methods. However, they must also take their time to review the material I give them during the
teaching and perform more research to add in what I teach them. I apply the humanism theory in
my teaching. Therefore, when teaching people, I teach them what they want to know and what
solves their issues (Purswell, 2019). The humanism theory is based on Maslow’s Hierarchy of
needs. Therefore, I determine how the teaching will fulfill the learner’s needs before I teach
them. I also understand that other factors like experiences and feelings impact students during
learning. Hence, I ensure that I provide a conducive environment for learning before teaching.
Apart from choosing the appropriate learning theory to guide my teaching, I also ensure
to know the learning methods that the learners prefer. For instance, nurses have lots of work in a

clinical setting and may need to learn and teach simultaneously. Educators must choose methods
that are appropriate for them. The learning style involves the processes that people prefer to
absorb knowledge. While some people may prefer to listen, others may prefer to see, and others
may want a combination of several methods (Cabual, 2021). Hence, when teaching a nurse or a
patient, I prefer combining several methods to cause optimal results. For instance, when
interacting with a patient in a clinical setting, lets a cancer patient, I will first want to know the
information that he needs so that I can provide it. I will also ensure that their physiological needs
have been provided and that the patient is able to understand the information. I will then frame
the information in a way that may be efficient. For instance, I may use a chart to show them the
stages of cancer and combine speech and visuals to explain to the patient. I will also recommend
other resources so the patient can seek more information later to optimize their knowledge.
I expect that I will work with learners who are already aware of the basic concepts of
most topics. Therefore, I will help them build from what they know to become more
knowledgeable. As a teacher, I believe teaching learners should aim at providing the information
they need. For instance, a patient needs improved outcomes. Therefore, teachings should be
person-centered. They should aim to help them solve their current and future issues. When
teaching a nurse, the education should be based on the area that the professional needs to
improve. I give information that is tailored to meet individual needs. Being student-centered
should be applied in determining the information to give and the methods to use. I also
understand that people are rational, and therefore, they know what they need. Hence, I respect
learners’ autonomy in choosing what they should be taught and how and when they should be
taught.

My goals as a teacher would vary depending on the student. However, they generally
involve benefitting learners. When dealing with a nurse or nursing student, my goal will be to
equip them with the information they need to offer safe, high-care quality. However, for patients,
teachings should aim to solve their healthcare problems and empower them to make wise health
decisions. Therefore, the teacher must always have good intentions for the learner in healthcare.
Also, teaching must facilitate students’ learning in several ways. First, it should create
material that improves students’ understanding. For instance, I determine areas where students
need help, develop the material, and expose students to it. The material should be relevant to
learners’ needs. Therefore, I usually take various chances to teach. If I observe a student doing
wrong, I will advise them to improve and teach them by illustrating or instructing the correct
approach. I will also help students learn by encouraging them to be disciplined. In healthcare,
both patients and professionals must respect their roles and each other to achieve good outcomes.
As a teacher, I encourage conducive environments for everyone to achieve their goals by
providing resources, encouraging discipline, and motivating those who learn. Motivation is
essential in teaching. For instance, after a student answers correctly, the teacher must appreciate
their work. They must show approval to encourage more learning.
In conclusion, teaching facilitates information exchange. It enables learners to improve
their knowledge by interacting with the right information in a suitable method. As a teacher, I
respect learners as rational people who know their needs. Hence, I offer the information they
need to achieve to become more knowledgeable in the topics being taught.
