To create your Infographic, click on Lifetime Activities Discussion and then click on Create Thread. To reply to your classmates’ posts, click on Reply. Reply to at least two classmates by Sunday. Students can choose to use the video feature to complete this assignment. Please review classmate posts before deciding on a topic so topics are not repeated.
Please participate in the discussion by selecting an activity and teaching us about the activity. The activity should be a lifetime activity that improves a person’s physical fitness and/or health. You may choose to teach us about the activity that you are passionate about and participate in regularly. Create an infographic highlighting every item from the list below. When you have completed the Infographic, take a screenshot (links are not accepted unless previously approved), and post it to the appropriate discussion board. Then reply to 2 other students’ posts. One post per activity please. If someone has already posted on an activity please choose another (for example, if someone has already posted an infographic on yoga, do not post another on yoga. Discussions that repeat another discussion will not receive credit).
The Infographic should include:
a summary of the activities to include
rules,
and equipment needed

Hiking
A Lifetime Activity
What is Hiking?
Hiking is an outdoor activity that involves walking outside in a natural
environment such as forests or mountains across a variety of trails or
paths. It is a great form of exercise because it can be done by a variety of
people since it doesn’t put too much stress on the body.
History
While Hiking has been around since Ancient Times, the earliest recorded
evidence of the activity can be traced back to Ancient Egypt, in which
hieroglyphics were drawn of people walking together. Throughout most of
history hiking was simply used as a form of transportation. It wasn’t until the
1800s in the United States when hiking became more of a leisure activity to
explore new unseen areas.
Equipment Needed
For a simple, easier hike that lasts less than two hours, little equipment is
needed, however you should always bring a good amount of water, hiking
boots/shoes that are in good condition, and dress appropriately and bring
sunscreen depending on the weather. For longer hikes through rougher
terrain, necessary equipment/gear one should bring a backpack to store food,
water, first aid supplies, and for hikes lasting longer than a day should bring a
tent for shelter, and a variety of different clothing.
Health Benefits
Hiking has many health benefits that are both physical and mental. Hiking can
help improve heart health by lowering your risk of heart disease, it can also help
lower blood pressure and improve sleep quality and balance. It is also good for
you mentally in that spending time outdoors and it nature has been proven to
boost ones mood and combat depression, stress, and anxiety.
Why I chose this activity
Hiking is activity that I have always enjoyed doing to during my free time to help myself
relax, give me peace, and put me in a positive mood. I enjoy going on simple hikes in the
woods by myself, to more extreme hikes with friends at state and national parks. I also
think it is a great way to improve ones overall physical and mental health since it can be
enjoyed and done by pretty much anyone, no matter how old they are, or what kind of
shape they are in.
